What Is Answer Engine Optimization (AEO)?
Answer Engine Optimization is the practice of making content a system can extract and cite when it answers a question directly — in an AI assistant, an overview, or a chat. It overlaps heavily with Generative Engine Optimization; both reward a clean, self-contained passage that answers one question, structured data a machine can parse, and a named, accountable source. Where classic SEO optimised for a click, AEO optimises for a citation.
Write the answer first
The structural move is to lead with a direct, 40–80-word answer to the exact question, then expand. A system assembling a reply extracts that passage whole. The rest of the page — key facts, sections, FAQ, structured data — supports and corroborates it. This encyclopedia is built to that contract, which is why every entry opens with its answer.

Questions
Is AEO different from GEO?
Barely. "GEO" stresses generative systems, "AEO" stresses the answer surface. The tactics — extractable passages, schema, named authorship — are the same.
Does AEO replace SEO?
No. Classic ranking still routes much discovery. AEO adds the requirement that your content be citable by a machine that answers without sending a click.
